Shhh!

While Sheetrock continues to be hung and taped on the second floor and in the attic bedrooms, sound attenuation measures are being taken in the upstairs TV room. Here we see stone wool acoustic dampening insulation installed between the studs in the walls and between the joists in the ceiling. Resilient sound insulation clips (RSIC-1) attached to the framing are used to hang 25 gage steel furring channels. The RSIC decouplers and furring channels are used to create an "air gap" to isolate the gypsum board from the house structure, reducing the transfer of vibration and noise to the walls beyond.

That's a 6' tall 1000W subwoofer installed between the studs on the right end of the wall.

A 5/32" mass-loaded vinyl noise barrier, the same used in recording studios, was attached to the resilient channel and then perimeter and joint caulked with a latex elastomeric acoustic sealant.

Finally, two layers of 5/8" drywall, with staggered seams, were installed over the membrane.
