Today the forms were removed from the cast footings and the surveyor came out and "pinned" the foundation wall corners. The nails driven into the footings by the surveyor -- and marked with pink paint -- show the exact location of the outside edge of the foundation walls that are to be built next. Over the next three weeks, forms will be built for the foundation walls, steel bars will be put in place for reinforcement (just like with the footings), and then the foundation walls will be cast in concrete.
Note the indentation that's been scraped into and runs the length of the footing. It's called a "keyway". It helps prevent lateral shifting of the foundation wall; when the concrete of the wall is poured, it locks into the keyway.
